At the end of August, we vacationed on Hilton Head Island for a week. We enjoyed the beach, riding bikes and a little extra sleep. On a walk to the beach one day, Sarah and Emily found a small lizard, which they adopted as a pet. As you may know, we have had very little success with "found pets."*
Having forgotten The Caterpillar Incident** and Sluggie Escapes,*** Sarah and Emily put "Quicksilver" in a Rubbermaid container, and history repeated itself. The girls did what any squamate reptile specialist would do; they made trails of lettuce all over the villa, which met at a handwritten note.
The soccer season started last weekend. Now that they are almost 9 years old, the scoring and team record matters. Emily scored in the first game and Sarah scored in the second game. Our team beat the pants off The Pink Pixies last Sunday.
Sarah and Emily have been in school for three weeks. Both girls brought home a spiral-bound notebook/planner which included school rules, a pocket for parent/teacher communication, and the Jamestown Cafeteria Mission Statement.
**our caterpillar escaped three times; his third attempt was successful
***Sluggie the Slug escaped; I found him a year later, hugging a decorative pillow
