July 19, 2008
We've had a very exciting summer, with the girls' wedding gig in June, four days at camp in Pennsylvania, and visits with family. Sarah and Emily have been at the pool nearly every day, and they've seen more movies in 6 weeks than I've seen since they were born.
Big news. Sarah and Emily have a cousin--their first--born last Friday. When Uncle Jeff and Aunt Deb called us with the details, Sarah suggested they name him "Joe John Jacob Roberts," and Emily proposed "Albert Einstein Roberts."
Back in March, we started giving the girls an allowance, so they won't be clueless about money when they grow up. Already they've learned a few important lessons: 1) always keep your receipt; and 2) if you aren't satisfied, you can return it.
Already, it is obvious Sarah and Emily have different attitudes toward money. At any given time, Sarah can tell you exactly how much money is in her wallet. Emily could care less. We had a "housefly issue" earlier this spring and I told Sarah she could have a quarter for every fly she killed. I ran out of quarters. Motivated by thoughts of a fat wallet, Sarah said to me, "If someone wants to sleep in my bed, they have to pay me."
